We often get asked how do you put on a dog harness, especially the overhead style of dog harness that we prefer here at Kurgo. It can be pretty tricky to get all the steps in order, but don't worry, we've developed an infographic that shows you, step by step, how to position, secure and adjust the perfect dog harness on your dog.
In case you're having trouble viewing the infographic, here are the steps in text:
1. Position
Start with the harness loose. Slide your dog's head through the dog harness neck piece and arrange the bottom straps between the dog's two front legs, under the belly.
2. Secure
Bring the buckles up behind the dog's front legs, around the belly of the dog. Snap the buckles together into the back piece. The buckles may be traditional plastic buckles or the Kurgo Nesting buckles. For the Kurgo nesting buckles, push the side that says "Kurgo" on the metal upward through the female end and then fold the metal over so it lays flat.
3. Adjust
Use the four adjustment points on the straps to fit the harness snug on your dog. It should be snug but loose enough for you to fit two fingers (and only two fingers) between the harness and your dog at any point. Adjust the straps evenly so it sits centered on your dog, and make sure to keep an eye out for chafing!
Once you go through all of these steps, you shouldn't have to do them again. Now that the harness is fitted properly, you can slide it on and off your dog easily and simply buckle it around the back and you're ready to go!
